Indokast (Montelukast Sodium) Description: Indokast (Montelukast Sodium) is selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits CysLT1 (Cysteinyl leukotriene) receptor. Cysteinyl leukotriene plays an important role in the pathogenesis of asthma.
Indications: Indokast is indicated for;
Dosage and Administration: Adults over 15 years: One 10mg tablet should be taken in the evening daily. Pediatric Patients 6 to 14 Years of Age with Asthma or Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis: For patients 6 to 14 years of age is one 5mg chewable tablet daily. No dosage adjustment with in this age group is necessary.
Pediatric Patients 2 to 5 Years of Age with Asthma or Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis: For patients 2 to 5 years of age is one 5mg chewable tablet daily. Side Effects: Indokast (Montelukast Sodium) is generally well tolerated but following side effects may occur; Diarrhoea, pharyngitis, laryngitis, nausea, otitis, sinusitis, viral infections,abdominal pain and headache. Precautions: Patients should be advised to have appropriate rescue medication available. Therapy with Indokast can be continued during acute exacerbations of asthma. Pregnancy: Since there are no adequate & well controlled studies available in pregnant women, Indokast may be prescribed in pregnant women only on clear indication. Lactation: It is not known that whether Indokast is secreted in breast milk , therefore caution should be applied when prescribing this drug to a nursing mother. Elderly Subjects: Safety and efficacy of Indokast remains unchanged in elderly patients.
